• Comets and Meteor Showers The comet portion assists the casual and serious observer by providing accurate positions, as well as a good overview of what the comet has been doing. It also provides good representative photographs, as well as an occasional analysis of the more interesting comets. A few historical comets are also be included, as well as a table that will eventually give information on every periodic comet. The Meteor Shower portion is divided into months and each meteor shower is given its own page.

  Born in 1857 in Nashville, Edward Emerson Bernard started his long career as an apprentice to a photographer at the age of nine. Over the following decades, he would become one of America's most famous observational amateurs, a position that would lead him to create his noted atlases of various regions of the Milky Way. The atlases were finally published in 1927, Barnard passed away in 1923, and regrettably they fell into obscurity. Fortunately, staff members at the Georgia Institute of Technology Library's Digital Initiatives Department decided to digitize this remarkable creation and place them online at this site. Visitors can search the collection galactic longitude or latitude, or just by browsing through such regions as the Pleiades and others. The site also contains a number of biographical essays on Bernard and a brief glossary of astronomical objects.
  • Voyage to the Milky Way (PBS) Brings viewers the strange new world of space exploration, a junction where real estate developers, scientists, visionaries, amateur rocketeers and government bureaucrats meet. The program looks squarely at the science and cents behind space travel, revealing that the race between the public and private sectors to carry out expeditions in space is as ambitious as those of the early explorers. Viewers experience live-action sequences with extensive 3-D computer animation to show the new dreams and maverick visionaries behind intergalactic travel and colonization.
